In its "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" lecture series, Stadtwerke Gießen will be providing information on the topic of solar power on 26 July.

More and more people are relying on the power of the sun: a photovoltaic system (PV system) on the roof produces clean green electricity, which can easily cover large parts of your own electricity requirements. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also makes financial sense: "If you use your own solar power, you reduce your electricity bill with every single kilowatt hour," explains Martin Lorenz, energy consultant at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). As part of the SWG lecture series "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" on 26 July, the expert will explain, among other things, which requirements must be met for the economic operation of the system and how the proportion of self-use can be increased. Martin Lorenz underpins his explanations with practical examples. Last but not least, he will also discuss the applicable formalities in his presentation.

Is it worth it for me?

Whether a PV system pays off depends on various factors. These include structural conditions such as the size of the roof, its pitch and orientation as well as any shading. However, the individual electricity requirement is at least as important. After all, this is the basis for the potential utilisation of solar power. "The more, the better," says Martin Lorenz. Because this is the case, in many cases an electricity storage unit is also an option in addition to the anthracite-coloured modules. This temporarily stores electrical energy that cannot be consumed immediately and releases it again when required, thereby increasing the level of self-consumption.

In his presentation, Martin Lorenz also sheds light on the prospective option of using the electricity from the roof to power an electric car or an electric heat pump. Of course, he also reveals the solutions offered by SWG. "From the e-roof to the e-storage unit to the e-box - with our e-revolution, we are paving the way for the energy transition at home and making it easier to switch to an electric vehicle at the same time," summarises the expert.

Conveniently from home
The lecture series is an online offer. Anyone who would like to watch the lecture "Photovoltaic power from the sun" on 26 July at 5.30 pm can register by 24 July at energieberatung@stadtwerke-giessen.de, receive a participation link in good time before the event and follow the presentation from the comfort of their own couch or terrace. It goes without saying that SWG will also guarantee a dialogue with the experts in this format: "We will answer all questions arising during the presentation in the usual detail," assures Martin Lorenz.
