Tenant electricity: My home - my electricity

Information for residents

As a resident, you can benefit from the electricity generated by the PV system on the roof of your residential building.

When residents of an apartment block can use the electricity generated by the building's own PV system directly, draw additional clean green electricity from the grid and save money in the process, we call this tenant electricity.

You can benefit from this offer: Around the clock, at a discounted price, regardless of whether the sun is shining or not.

Advantages for residents

Take out your tenant electricity tariff now and:

  • reduce your electricity costs,
  • always use 100 % green electricity,
  • benefit twice over and become part of the energy transition: Save money and protect the environment.

With our tenant electricity tariff, you always receive clean and cheap electricity from the roof at an attractive electricity price. Switching is simple and straightforward.

Questions about tenant-generated electricity

The tenant electricity tariff is particularly affordable and is always lower than the relevant basic supply rate. We regularly compare different offers and adjust the tenant electricity tariff – where possible. You can find the current terms and conditions at any time on the tenant electricity website.

The tenant electricity tariff applies to the total amount of energy consumed, regardless of whether the electricity comes from the solar panel system or the public grid.

If you are unsure whether a tenant electricity tariff is available in your block of flats, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to answer your question. You can reach us by telephone or visit us in person at our customer centre on Marktplatz in Gießen.

Alternatively, you can contact your landlord or property manager.

The tenant electricity tariff is property-specific. Only residents of a residential building in which SWG has implemented a tenant electricity scheme are eligible to benefit.

If the solar PV system does not fully cover the building’s current electricity demand, tenants on the ‘Mieterstrom’ scheme receive 100 per cent of their electricity from renewable sources via the grid.

Yes. You will only benefit from the electricity generated by the solar panel system on the roof of the property where you live if you sign up for the tenant electricity tariff.

That’s no problem: taking into account the terms of your current contracts and notice periods, you can sign up for our tenant electricity tariff and we’ll take care of the rest.

Meter readings for tenant electricity meters are taken on 31 December of each year. You do not need to provide SWG with your meter readings. You will then receive your periodic bill at the start of the following year.

Yes, provided we offer the tenant electricity tariff in your residential building. We’d be happy to arrange for you to switch to the tenant electricity tariff at the earliest possible date. You will then receive a confirmation of your contract.

As the tenant electricity tariff is property-specific, you cannot always ‘take it with you’ to a new flat. You will receive a final bill for your consumption up to the date of your move-out. We would be happy to supply you at your new address on one of our attractive electricity tariffs.

Information for homeowners

SWG realises various tenant electricity models with condominium owners' associations (WEG), housing associations or private owners. The planned or existing structures are taken into account when developing a concept.

Are you interested in a tenant electricity solution in an apartment block? Ideally, do you have a property with at least 12 residential units? Then SWG can plan, design and implement a suitable solution for you. In addition to the technical implementation, we also take care of drawing up the electricity contracts and the residents' electricity bills.
