Conversion of street lighting to LED

Providing light on our streets is a municipal task. In times of high energy prices and against the backdrop of the challenges of the energy transition, more and more cities and municipalities are equipping their lighting systems with modern LED technology. This has many advantages. At the same time, a number of factors need to be considered in order to operate street lighting efficiently and in a way that conserves resources and protects the environment.

We, Stadtwerke Gießen, are happy to support you in this challenging task and offer you solutions and concepts for sustainable retrofitting / upgrading your streetlights with LEDs. We analyse the current situation with an inventory and are happy to create a concept for you.

Is the street lighting in your municipality also due for refurbishment? Would you like to accelerate your switch to LED? Then we are the right partner for you.

Advantages

Clearly, the biggest advantage of LEDs is that they use much less energy than other light sources. This applies to households, but especially to the operation of street lighting. Compared to conventional lights, an LED lamp saves around 70 per cent of energy. Compared to mercury vapour lamps, which were still in use around 15 years ago, they can even save up to 80 percent. If a local authority retrofits all its street lighting, this results in considerable savings.

Advantages of LED street lighting:

  • More economical in terms of energy consumption than conventional street lights
  • Long service life of the LED lights
  • Low maintenance, as the LED lamps have a low failure rate
