Application tips

Were we able to inspire you for a job at Stadtwerke Gießen? Then now it's your turn. Show us with your application that we are the right place for you. We will now tell you how you can do this.

Our tips

As soon as you have found an interesting position in our job portal or would like to send us an unsolicited application, you will be redirected to our applicant portal by clicking on the position. There you can create your own profile and upload your CV, cover letter and references. After submitting your application, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt by e-mail.

We expect you to send us a cover letter, a CV and relevant references (diplomas, references, certificates). These should provide information about your qualifications, experience and skills. The documents should clearly and precisely emphasise your suitability for the advertised position.

  • Your cover letter should be no longer than one page.
  • Briefly explain your motivation: Why have you applied for this position? Why do you want to work at SWG?
  • Experience: For which requirements described in the job advert do you already have experience and knowledge? What do you generally bring to this position? What could be the differences between you and other applicants?
  • Don't just list your skills ("I am a team player, organised and conscientious"), but explain them using specific examples.
  • Explain what you are passionate about or what drives you.
  • We are interested in what motivates you to apply, why the selected job/position suits you and why we should invite you to an interview. Focus on clear and precise language. Emphasise your strengths, your skills and your experience for the job and don't ramble on.
  • Before you save and upload your application, check your documents for typos and spelling mistakes.

  • Structure your CV in chronological order, starting with your current job. Possible CV categories could be the following:
    • Heading and personal details
    • Work experience
    • Education (studies, vocational and school education)
    • Further education and training
    • Other qualifications and skills
  • List any information that gives us an insight into what makes you special as a person (e.g. hobbies, time spent abroad, voluntary work, part-time jobs, languages, IT skills).
  • Information about your religion, parents, siblings or spouse is not relevant.
  • You do not have to apologise for any gaps in your CV, but be prepared to be asked about them during the interview.

You will receive a confirmation of receipt by e-mail with instructions on how to proceed with the application process.

  • Plan enough time for your journey to SWG.
  • Take your time to go through the job advertisement and your application documents beforehand.
  • Prepare yourself for questions: e.g. Why did you apply for this position? Why are you suitable for the position? Why is SWG the right employer for you?
  • Find out more about SWG, e.g. on our homepage.

  • Don't pretend and stay true to yourself.
  • Ask questions that show that you have looked into the job advert and SWG and take the opportunity to ask anything that interests you.
  • We want to find out more about your professional and personal skills. Specific examples of situations from your day-to-day work will help to describe your skills.

  • If you still have questions after the interview, you are welcome to get in touch with your contact person.
  • We usually interview several applicants for a position. As soon as all interviews have been completed, we will give you immediate feedback.
