To mark this year's World Water Day on 22 March, Stadtwerke Gießen is welcoming interested parties to the Queckborn waterworks for an exciting guided tour.

Water from the tap in the blink of an eye - in Germany, most people take it for granted several times a day. But the facts are different globally: around 2.2 billion people have no access to clean drinking water. World Water Day, proclaimed by the United Nations on 22 March each year, is a reminder that water is a vital commodity and access to it is a fundamental human right.

As it does every year, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is once again offering a look behind the scenes of the drinking water supply on World Water Day 2024 - in the form of a visit to the Queckborn waterworks. Interested parties can find out how SWG extracts, treats and transports drinking water. The guided tour of the waterworks provides an insight into the necessary technical systems and processes. SWG experts also explain where the Queckborn water comes from and why it is of such excellent quality. At the end of the informative excursion, a visit to the elevated tank on the B49 is part of the programme.

Limited number of participants

SWG will be providing a special bus free of charge to enable all those interested to make the journey in comfort. It departs at 14:00 from the "Behördenzentrum" bus stop, directly opposite the Kinopolis on the Ostanlage in Giessen, and takes participants back there at around 17:30 after the end of the event. As only 35 people can take part, early registration is advisable. Those interested can register by 15 March by calling the service number 0800 23 02 100.

Waterworks tours throughout the year

SWG also offers guided tours of the Queckborn waterworks outside of World Water Day - for school classes, clubs and other groups, for example. A registration form is available online at www.swg-wasser.de to arrange a tour for a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 35 people.
