Books are anything but boring and fun - as Giessen schoolchildren will prove next Sunday, 25 May. Together with the well-known TV presenter Willi Weitzel, they will be presenting their favourite stories on the SWG stage at the Landesgartenschau.

Numerous pupils from Giessen have prepared themselves well for their big performance next Sunday. After all, they will be the stars on the SWG stage at the State Garden Show between 11 am and 5 pm. Together with TV presenter Willi Weitzel, children from first to sixth grade will be presenting their favourite books. They want to show all spectators: "Reading is fun!" They are sure to infect adults and their peers alike with their enjoyment of the stories.
The "Reading fun with Willi Weitzel" was organised by Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and "MENTOR - Die Leselernhelfer Gießen e.V.". In the region, the association is committed to improving pupils' reading skills and encouraging them to enjoy the printed word. The concept: one volunteer adult looks after one child at a time. Both read a book regularly after school and talk about the content. The two founders of the organisation will explain what is special about MENTOR and how everyone can get involved on the SWG stage and at the MENTOR information stand on Sunday. "The volunteers at MENTOR do a great job. It's a concept that works and a valuable commitment that we want to support," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG.
In February, MENTOR and Stadtwerke Gießen called on schoolchildren to create a presentation of their favourite book and submit it to SWG - in the form of a drawing, a picture story, a craft project or simply as a text. A jury selected the six best entries - the ones that will be presented on the SWG stage on 25 May.

A big party for the whole family

MENTOR and SWG have also prepared a party with numerous attractions for visitors - including musical highlights such as performances by the Korczak School choir and a music class from the Ricarda Huch School. The band "zeng!", which emerged from a school band at the Brüder Grimm School, is also looking forward to delighting the audience.
Clown Ichmael will provide fun and funny moments throughout the day and stimulate the laughter muscles. Of course, the hands-on circus, face painting station, bouncy castle and juggling training are not to be missed.
And all those who catch the book bug on Sunday can immediately look for new reading material at the MENTOR book flea market. In the neighbouring tent, they will find seating to immerse themselves in the story straight away.
