Stadtwerke Gießen will reveal how its customers can mitigate the rise in energy costs in three informative presentations in November.

Energy prices are currently rising across the board. The main reason for this is the global economic upturn following the economic slump of the past year and a half. Demand for fossil fuels such as natural gas has risen sharply, particularly in energy-intensive industries - and with it the prices for these fuels. Customers of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) are also affected by this development.

But there are ways to keep energy costs under control. "Saving energy is an effective way," says Astrid Weixler, a consultant at SWG. In this role, she offers free online presentations to all interested parties, in which she shows ways in which consumption can be significantly reduced. Each presentation lasts around one hour.

These topics are on the agenda

What energy-saving options are there in the household? What consumes how much energy? How can small changes in everyday life noticeably reduce electricity consumption? And which appliances are recommended in terms of their energy efficiency? Astrid Weixler will answer these and other questions in the online lecture "Saving electricity in the home" on Thursday, 11 November at 6 pm.

The second lecture is primarily aimed at owners of multi-storey houses who operate a heating system. It is still common for some radiators to get really hot at a low setting, while others only stay lukewarm even at a high setting. The heating system also whistles or hisses. Anyone who is familiar with these problems should think about hydraulic balancing and keep 18 November free. From 6 pm, Astrid Weixler will explain the principle and how it can save energy.

Last but not least, air humidity and therefore ventilation play a crucial role when it comes to heating energy consumption. A four-person household produces an average of twelve litres of water vapour every day. Excessive humidity can quickly become a real problem. It promotes the formation of mould and drives up heating costs. Astrid Weixler will explain how correct ventilation prevents all of this and what the relationship is between room temperature and heating energy requirements in the lecture "Correct heating and ventilation" on 25 November from 6 pm.
