Recently, customers of Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) again fell victim to fraudulent telephone calls. Apparently, the brazen callers are trying to gain access to the house. The fraudsters use the following scam: They claim that there have been irregularities at the meter. They therefore need to make an appointment.
In this particular case, Stadtwerke Gießen is asking all those affected to pass on information and tips on this matter to SWG. Stadtwerke Gießen is doing everything in its power to initiate criminal prosecution and put a stop to the crooks.
"From what we know so far, the crooks hang up when they are asked for their name and telephone number," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG. However, it is also not rude to simply end the call by hanging up the phone without giving a reason. After all, this is for your own protection. Ulli Boos strongly advises anyone who has already made an appointment by mistake: "Never let the supposed municipal utility employee into your home or house!"
The SWG customer service staff will accept all information and tips in connection with the attempted fraud - on the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile phone networks) Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
