Electricity, natural gas and heat will be cheaper from 1 July. Stadtwerke Gießen will pass on the VAT reduction in full to its customers.

As part of the coronavirus aid package, the German government reduced the full VAT rate from 19 to 16 per cent at the beginning of June. This will apply from 1 July for a period of six months and will have a direct impact on the energy prices charged by Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). "We are passing this tax advantage on to our customers one-to-one," explains Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG. For an average family with an annual consumption of around 4000 kilowatt hours, this means a saving of around 15 euros. "Admittedly, the amounts are manageable. But it goes without saying that we will also pass on this tax reduction," adds Ina Weller.
Important to know: Nobody has to take action themselves to benefit from the lower prices. Thanks to clever algorithms, SWG can determine the consumption of electricity, natural gas or heat very precisely on the cut-off dates of 30 June and 31 December.
