Two football festivals for juniors
SWG and the Giessen football district work closely together - for the district cup for juniors.
Giessen. The Giessen football district and Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) have maintained a good relationship for many years. Now a co-operation is growing out of this: SWG is supporting the district cup for juniors aged between 9 and 18. "Focussing on children and young people fits in perfectly with our concept, which we also pursue with our 'Spiel' Dein Spiel' campaign - getting young people interested in sport and exercise," explained Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing & Communications at SWG, at the presentation of the cooperation at Stadtwerke Gießen. District football manager Henry Mohr is also delighted that SWG is committed to youth football in the district of Giessen: "In order to organise an enjoyable cup competition for everyone involved, you need a strong and reliable partner. We are delighted that SWG are helping us here."
Klaus-Jürgen Schretzlmaier, District Youth Manager and Cup Class Leader, is particularly pleased that a long-term cooperation has been established here, which makes it much easier to plan the competition.
Tangible support
SWG supports the football district and the clubs taking part in the cup in various ways. For example, each competing team receives a ball before the round begins. For the ten finalists in the various age groups from E- to A-youth, there is another - as a bonus, so to speak. The winners will each receive a trophy recognising them as winners. There are also medals for all players in the final teams. SWG will also cover the costs for the referees and donate balls for the G and F youths, who will compete against each other in interlude matches on the final days. "We want to offer the children and young people a football festival that they will remember for a long time. And we can only achieve this thanks to the generous help of SWG," summarises Henry Mohr.
Two final days
The SWG Junior Cup - like its big role model, the DFB Cup - essentially runs during the normal league season. As a result, there are two different final days for the juniors. The first final day will take place on 18 October in Langgöns at TSV Lang-Göns 1898 e.V.. This is where the A and B youth teams will play out their cup winners. The reason for splitting the finals into two days is that the winners of the A and B Juniors will take part in the Hessen Cup in November. The final day in October starts at 11 a.m. with a preliminary match for the G-juniors. This will be followed by the final of the B-juniors at 12 noon, followed by the award ceremony at around 1.45 pm. The programme continues at 2.00 pm with an interlude match between the F-juniors before the final of the A-juniors at 3.00 pm. The award ceremony will take place at around 4.45 pm. While all matches will take place on the grass pitch, four stations will be set up on the artificial turf for children to keep themselves busy and earn football badges.
The C, D and E juniors will then meet in June 2026 to determine their cup winners. "I assume that we will be able to announce the date and venue for the second final day in March 2026 at the latest," explains the district youth manager.
