Construction work in Rudolf-Diesel-Straße will necessitate various traffic diversions.
Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will be laying electricity and water pipes in Rudolf-Diesel-Straße as an upstream construction measure to the road expansion. This will affect Oberlachweg between Rudolf-Diesel-Straße and the roundabout (connection to the A485 Gießener Ring) and Rudolf-Diesel-Straße between Oberlachweg and house number 7.
The upcoming work will make it necessary to divert traffic. It will run via Colemanstraße, Stolzenmorgen, Zeppelin-, Lilienthal- and Lufthansastraße as well as Rödgener Straße and will be set up and signposted accordingly. The construction work will begin on 28 May 2024 and is expected to be completed on 2 August 2024.
The water pipes will be laid in three construction phases. For the first section, Oberlachweg from the Colemanstraße roundabout to Rudolf-Diesel-Straße will have to be fully closed to traffic for six weeks. The U10 diversion for vehicles travelling from the A485 will be via Colemanstraße and Stolzenmorgen. In the direction of the city centre/THM, traffic will be routed via Zeppelinstraße. In the direction of Alsfeld and Grünberg, traffic will be routed via Lufthansastraße onto Rödgener Straße.
To get back onto the A485, traffic from all directions will be collected via Lilienthalstraße and also routed via Stolzenmorgen and Colemanstraße. From here, the U20 signs will show the way. SWG is setting up an emergency route for pedestrians and cyclists so that Oberlachweg remains passable for these road users at all times.
The second construction phase concerns the junction of Rudolf-Diesel-Straße and Oberlachweg. For this purpose, Rudolf-Diesel-Straße will be closed on one side. A traffic light system will regulate the traffic. Once this section has been completed, SWG will remove the entire closure, including the diversion, so that access to and from the A485 motorway can be regained as usual.
The third section will require the Rudolf-Diesel-Straße/Max-Eyth-Straße/Zeppelinstraße junction to be closed for three weeks. Zeppelinstraße and Max-Eyth-Straße will be fully closed just before the junction. One side of Rudolf-Diesel-Straße will remain open to traffic - controlled by traffic lights.
