Colourful programme for young campers

The tent camps organised by Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) on the grounds of the Ringallee swimming centre are entering their fourth round. The tent camps began with the start of the school holidays three weeks ago - since then, over 70 children have taken part. Week after week, a team of supervisors presents the 9 to 14-year-olds with a varied programme. From beach volleyball to a short city excursion, where the participants have to skilfully solve tasks, to night hikes - there is something for everyone. A bat excursion and a visit to the Giessen Mathematics Centre are particularly popular with the kids. Between all the sporting activities, the day trip is a welcome change. It takes the participants to the airport in Frankfurt am Main. In the evenings, the participants enjoy a cosy barbecue and occasionally listen to exciting stories told by the supervisors. Sometimes the carers are particularly in demand "Flexibility is the non plus ultra at the tent camps," said one of the carers. "Unfortunately, the weather has often played tricks on us in recent weeks. And the cool water in the outdoor pool is only really fun for the children when the weather is good. When the weather doesn't play ball, we are always in special demand. Then we have to offer the children a fun and entertaining programme." But the carers now have plenty of practice in this too, because none of the participants should be bored. Tent camps are coming to an endThis year, the tent camps are already coming to an end - just one more week and they are over. Anyone who has always wanted to spend four nights in a group on camp beds in large tents still has the opportunity to do so. There are still a few places available from 22 to 26 August. Anyone interested can find out more from camp leader Frank Marschner or call 0160 96955570 to register. The five-day camp, including accommodation, meals and programme, costs 80 euros.outlookThe Stadtwerke will once again be offering camps in Ringallee during the next summer holidays. The camping holidays have become a tradition. SWG has been organising camping on the grounds of the outdoor pool for over ten years.
