The German government is calling on people across Germany to save energy - in order to avert a shortage in the gas supply. For this reason, the SWG swimming pool operators have decided to close the Ringallee indoor swimming pool centre to the public from next Monday. Club and school sports will not be affected, and children's swimming courses will continue to take place. The Westbad, Ringallee outdoor pool and all other outdoor pools will remain open as planned at the usual times.
From Monday 4 July, the doors of the indoor pool Badezentrum in Ringallee will remain closed to the public until the end of the outdoor pool season. This applies to regular pool operations and the sauna; the outdoor pool at the bathing centre will of course remain open for refreshing fun. "This is our contribution to saving energy and thus preventing a possible gas shortage in winter," explains Uwe Volbrecht, head of the Giessen swimming pools.
Children's swimming courses continue
The swimming centre will remain open as usual for club and school sports until the start of the Hessian summer holidays. This means that there will be no cancellations in school swimming lessons or sports swimming either before or after the summer holidays. Uwe Volbrecht adds: "Of course, we will also complete all swimming courses that have already started. However, we will have to adapt the planned programme for all other swimming and fitness courses to the new situation."
The swimming centre will close its doors completely for the Hessian summer holidays from 25 July to 2 September. The current children's swimming courses will also be cancelled. The massage department is exempt from all restrictions. Operations there will continue uninterrupted.
High savings potential
With this measure, Stadtwerke Gießen's pool operations are helping to counteract an impending energy shortage. The closure means that the water and the hall do not have to be reheated every day. This saves a lot of energy. The swimming centre is also lowering the water temperature in the sports pool and active pool to 25 degrees Celsius. This does not affect the teaching pool, which will remain at 31 degrees Celsius.
Cooling down in the outdoor pool
The good news is that all three outdoor pools in Giessen are still open every day without restriction - and offer the usual cool refreshment. The Ringallee outdoor pool from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the two outdoor pools in Lützellinden and Kleinlinden from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. respectively. So nothing stands in the way of a summer in the water.
The Giessen swimming pools will inform you in good time when the Ringallee indoor swimming pool centre reopens regularly. Further, up-to-date information is available on the Internet at: www.giessener-baeder.de or at facebook.com/giessenerbaeder
