The popular summer football camp organised by Stadtwerke Gießen entered its eleventh round this year. 60 girls and boys spent a week honing their football skills. Guided by dedicated coaches and supported by Stadtwerke Giessen.
For five days - from 10 to 14 August - young footballers aged between 6 and 15 came together for the summer football camp at the sports grounds in Pohlheim-Garbenteich. As in previous years, technique and tactics were on the training programme. And, of course, Stadtwerke was once again involved as a sponsor for the training camp of the Junior Football Academy Mittelhessen.
Training like the pros
Licensed coaches looked after the football kids every day. The coaching team focussed on improving individual techniques such as ball handling, shooting at goal and passing. A variety of different games and exercises ensured that the young footballers remained enthusiastic. For goalkeepers, the coaches naturally drew up a special plan with specific exercises. And to ensure that fun was not neglected despite all the effort, the coaches repeatedly formed teams and had the children play against each other. This allowed the girls and boys to try out and consolidate what they had learnt on the pitch.
The children completed a full five hours of training every day - from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - at the football camp. Consequently, catering was also part of the concept. Lunch was served during the breaks. The young footballers were of course able to get drinks as required throughout the training camp. This was particularly important in view of the heat this year.
The organisers of the Junior Football Academy and SWG are satisfied with the 2015 summer football camp. "Demand for the football camp was once again pleasingly high this year," says Thomas Wagner, Sales Manager Business Customers at SWG. "From this enthusiasm, we can conclude that the camp is still going down well with the children, even after all these years."
