In Giessen, a man is trying to sign energy contracts at the front door under false pretences. Stadtwerke Gießen advises caution.

Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is warning against a suspected fraudster who is currently up to mischief in Gießen. He tried the following brazen scam in Heyerweg: He pretends to be an energy consultant from SWG in order to get into dialogue with his victims. In reality, however, it is probably someone who wants to make a quick deal on the doorstep on behalf of an energy provider from Duisburg.

React correctly

Someone arriving unsolicited and claiming to be an energy consultant from SWG is a sure sign that something is wrong. SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos recommends acting calmly but firmly in such situations: "The best thing to do is not to speak to the man at all." He also advises people to follow the usual rules - i.e. never let anyone into your home and never give out personal details at the front door under any circumstances.

Help requested

As is so often the case, SWG found out about this current scam because affected customers called and reported it. "We are very grateful for this commitment," explains Ulli Boos and adds: "As soon as we realise that dubious characters are up to mischief, we warn them." SWG is happy to receive such reports via many different channels.
