New cases of attempted fraud at the front door have become known in Giessen. SWG recommends being vigilant.

Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is warning against a suspected fraudster who is causing major damage with quick deals at the front door. The modus operandi: The bearded man, aged around his late 20s, pretends to be a municipal utility employee. He claims that SWG has new tariffs and better conditions. He had to inform them about this. He also demands a signature - as proof that he was on site. The offender is very aggressive and pushy. If a signature is obtained, the household in question is cancelled with the municipal utilities within 24 hours and registered with a third-party provider. This has far-reaching financial consequences.

SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos advises all affected victims to contact SWG customer service directly. "We offer help with cancellation and will do everything we can to avert the consequences of signing up."

Caution is always advised

It is a clear warning sign if someone turns up unannounced and claims to be an employee of SWG without being able to identify themselves. You should be sceptical in such cases. Ulli Boos advises you to remain calm and resolute: "It's best not to speak to this person in the first place." He also recommends observing general precautions in such cases: Never let anyone into your home and never give out personal details at the front door.

As in the past, SWG also learnt about this current scam because affected customers called and reported it. "We are very grateful for this commitment," explains Ulli Boos and adds: "As soon as we know that dubious people are active, we warn them." SWG is happy to receive reports via its various channels.
