Apparently, dubious sales companies are once again trying to do business by dishonest means. A customer of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), among others, reported receiving a call to this effect. She stated that she had been contacted by an unknown woman on the phone. "Our customer describes that the woman claimed to be an employee of SWG and enquired about a letter that had allegedly been sent, to which there was no response. This question is probably a scam designed to make the call look legitimate," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG.
Although the SWG customer showed no interest, the woman on the phone did not let up. She once again touted the particularly favourable tariffs and asked for the customer and meter number for a concrete offer. But the customer continued to persist, whereupon the caller finally hung up. "Our customer wasn't fooled and did exactly the right thing. You should never give out your customer or meter number on the phone. We ourselves would never ask for them when calling," assures Ulli Boos and recommends: "If in doubt, customers should end the call immediately and get in touch with us."
Anyone who has received a similar call can contact SWG directly - by calling the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile networks), at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz or by email at info@stadtwerke-giessen.de.
