Once again, fraudsters in the Giessen area are trying to obtain data from customers of Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) via telephone calls. In the last few days, several customers have contacted SWG and described the content of the phone calls. This time the scam works like this: The callers ask for the last electricity bill and ask the potential victims to look it up already. The fraudster also announces another call in which everything else will be discussed.
SWG advises everyone not to give out personal data over the phone under any circumstances. "At Stadtwerke Gießen, we never clarify questions involving personal data over the phone, but always in writing," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG. He also advises ending such a call immediately, even without giving reasons. "If there is a suspicion that the call is dodgy, it is not impolite to simply hang up."
SWG asks all those who have also received suspicious calls to contact customer service immediately and report the case. The more information we have, the quicker we can put a stop to the crooks. The employees can be reached on the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile phone networks) Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7 pm.
