From January 2023, Stadtwerke Gießen will take over water operations management for the town of Allendorf/Lumda. In future, the town will benefit from SWG's certified standards and experience.

After a year and a half of preparations, the time had come on 21 December at Allendorf/Lumda town hall: the contracts for SWG to take over water operations management were signed. The Mayor of Allendorf/Lumda, Thomas Benz, the first deputy mayor Petra Sommerlad, head of the building authority Felix Jung and water master Stefan Riedel attended the event on behalf of the town. On behalf of SWG, Technical Director Matthias Funk, Head of Department Peter Keller and Thomas Wagner, who is responsible for municipal sales, were present.

Around 30 kilometres of additional pipe network in view
The mayor of Allendorf/Lumda, Thomas Benz: "We are talking about 30 kilometres of water pipe network and around 1,500 house connections - these will be monitored and maintained by SWG from 1 January 2023." The water management team previously responsible will move to SWG. With the takeover, the town of Allendorf/Lumda will benefit from SWG's ultra-modern structure with two network control centres that are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In case of doubt, teams can be on site within 45 to 60 minutes to assess processes or repair damage.

Certified standards
Matthias Funk from SWG is also satisfied: "Just a few days ago, our water management system received the TSM certificate. This once again underlines our high level of technical expertise in the management of critical infrastructures." TSM stands for Technical Safety Management and requires the fulfilment of numerous, highly complex criteria. The complex certification process was completed and passed in mid-December.

No jumping in at the deep end
Stadtwerke Gießen has been responsible for the standby work on the water pipe network in the town of Allendorf/Lumda since 1 March 2022. SWG department manager Peter Keller explains: "We had enough time to familiarise ourselves with the conditions on site." This also includes water extraction from horizontal and deep wells as well as so-called artesian springs. It also involves a total of four elevated tanks, including the historic Climbach water tower.

Regional commitment
By taking over water operations management, SWG is consolidating its role as a reliable partner in the region. This is because the drinking water suppliers in the municipalities of Wettenberg, Heuchelheim and Rabenau as well as the Dieberggruppe special-purpose association have already transferred the management of their networks and facilities to SWG.
