Stadtwerke Gießen is helping the Lumda volunteer fire brigade to purchase a new crew van with a donation of 500 euros.
The TÜV inspectors would have denied the Lumda volunteer fire brigade a new sticker for the next two years for its old crew transport vehicle. After 14 years in service, the vehicle had become obsolete and no longer met the applicable standards. "A repair would have been far too expensive," assures Gerald Seim, 1st Chairman of the Lumda Volunteer Fire Brigade Association and Fire Chief. The volunteers therefore decided to buy a new vehicle - a 9-seater bus that fulfils the current requirements for an emergency vehicle. Most of the purchase price was provided by the municipality of Grünberg (Lumda). However, there was still a lack of money that the volunteer fire brigade was unable to raise from its own budget. Thimo Rieger, who works in sales at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), learnt about this. He himself has been a member of the voluntary fire brigade in Lumda since his youth and was even a member of the fire brigade for a while. Thimo Rieger suggested supporting the volunteers with the purchase - with a donation as part of the 75 good deeds.
"Fire brigades in a small town like Lumda are among the most important local lifesavers. However, it is incredibly difficult for them to make large investments - and they need help," explains Thimo Rieger. On Saturday, 20 July, the SWG employee handed over the symbolic donation cheque for 500 euros to Gerald Seim and André Enders, the calculator of the Lumda Volunteer Fire Brigade Association. Both expressed their thanks for the support and were delighted that the new vehicle will soon be in the vehicle hall.
