Stadtwerke Gießen and the local fire brigades have already been working together for many years - this is now set to become even closer. This was announced on Monday, 20 December by SWG company spokesperson Ina Weller. Together with Staufenberg Mayor Horst Münch, in his role as Chairman of the District Fire Brigade Association, and District Fire Inspector Mario Binsch, Weller launched the "Fire brigade of the future - two partners stand for safety in the region" campaign at the SWG headquarters in Lahnstraße. In addition to the existing support for fire brigades in the form of donations in kind, bus advertising and support for the district fire brigade association conference and the district youth fire brigade association conference, an annual prize donated by SWG for the "Fire brigade of the future" is planned for the coming year. Towards the end of each year, a jury consisting of representatives from the district of Giessen, the fire brigades, the press and municipal utilities will select the winners. Prize money totalling 1,500, 1,000 and 500 euros will be awarded to youth, music and operational departments.

District fire inspector Binsch welcomed the campaign: "It supports the work of the volunteer fire brigades, contributes to the attractiveness of children and youth work and motivates children and young people to become active in the volunteer fire brigades. "The prize thus makes an important contribution," continued district fire inspector Mario Binsch. The campaign was also particularly well received by District Administrator Anita Schneider, who was unfortunately unable to attend the event.

"We have to adapt to the requirements of the future," added Horst Münch. An important opportunity lies in the joint efforts of private and public commitment with active support from local companies such as SWG. "A lot of things are easier together - especially because there are and must continue to be many interfaces between an energy and water supplier such as the municipal utilities and the fire services anyway," explained district fire inspector Binsch.
