SWG renews water pipes
In order to make the water supply future-proof, Stadtwerke Gießen will be replacing the pipes in Richard-Wagner-Straße from 20 October.
As part of scheduled modernisation work on the water network, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is replacing the water pipes in Richard-Wagner-Straße. The construction work on behalf of Mittelhessische Wasserbetriebe will start on 20 October and is expected to last until mid-December.
"Our mission is to be able to guarantee a reliable supply of safe drinking water in the future. It is therefore essential to regularly invest in and maintain the existing infrastructure," explains SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos. The plan is to replace the ageing cast steel pipes with new pipes made of the same material. An inspection of the house connections is also on the agenda.
Buses not affected
Although SWG is trying to minimise the disruption to residents, certain restrictions cannot be avoided. As the supply lines are laid at the edge of the carriageway on the side of the odd-numbered houses, the pavement in this area can only be used to a limited extent for the duration of the construction work. The road must be fully closed in the shifting construction site area. Despite the full closure, residents will be able to drive their vehicles onto their property during this period, with the exception of a few parking spaces that will be unavailable for the duration of the work. Construction noise is also to be expected at times. Bus routes are not affected by the restrictions and will run as usual.
SWG thanks you for your understanding
If there are brief interruptions to the supply, SWG will inform those affected of the exact time by letter at short notice. Ulli Boos asks for your forbearance: "We are aware that the construction work will cause some inconvenience, for which we would like to apologise in advance and thank you for your understanding."
