The Lollar-Lumdatal building cooperative can be pleased about a considerable 27 per cent saving in heating energy in its four apartment blocks in Friedrich-Ebert-Straße in Lollar. Neither insulation nor new windows were installed, only the heating technology was optimised. The cooperative had already agreed an optimisation of the energy systems and a ten-year heat supply contract with En5, the energy services team from Stadtwerke Gießen, in April last year. "The technical work has now been completed and we are completely satisfied with the result," says Axel Löwenstein, Managing Director of the building cooperative. The experience with the energy management of Stadtwerke Gießen during the conversion phase was nothing but positive and they are now pleased with the expected cost and environmental savings thanks to the far more efficient energy technology.
The centrepiece of the optimisation of the existing heating systems was a central and therefore particularly energy-efficient gas condensing boiler system with an output of 185 kW. This distributes its heating energy to the respective residential buildings via a small local heating network. The modernisation reduced the annual heating requirement from 360,000 kilowatt hours per year to just 250,000 kilowatt hours.
With projects like the one in Lollar, Stadtwerke Gießen has been expanding its strategic focus for some time now and, in addition to pure energy sales, is increasingly focussing on energy andCO2 savings through the use of highly efficient technologies in companies, municipalities and retirement homes.
