The number one foodstuff is the focus of attention for one day on 22 March. People all over the world are celebrating Water Day - including in Giessen. At Stadtwerke Giessen, everything revolves around drinking water treatment and sporting activities in the cool water.

Drinking water travels a long way before it reaches Giessen households. One of the stations: the waterworks of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) in Queckborn. On 22 March between 2 and 5 p.m., interested visitors can take a look behind the scenes at how this precious resource is processed. SWG invites you to a guided tour of the waterworks - followed by a visit to the central zone tank near Annerod.
In Queckborn, guests learn, among other things, about the technology used to transport water from the source to each individual tap. "When taking a shower or washing their hands, hardly anyone thinks about the effort that goes into ensuring that clean drinking water of the highest quality gushes out of the tap at all times. During the free guided tours, we explain this and show how the technology has developed over the past decades," promises Michael Rösner from Stadtwerke Gießen.

By bus to Queckborn
Participants in the guided tour will meet at 2 p.m. on 22 March at the Behördenzentrum bus stop in Giessen. From there, SWG will take all visitors to Queckborn by bus - free of charge. Stadtwerke Gießen will accept registrations until 14 March - by calling the service number 0800 2302100.
World Water Day offers a special opportunity to take a look behind the scenes - but not the only one. Schools and clubs in particular can arrange visits throughout the year. On the SWG website www.stadtwerke-giessen.de, interested parties can find an online form to fill out under the heading "Water".

Dive into the new sports programme
On World Water Day, SWG also offers the opportunity to get to know water from a completely new perspective. Two special courses will take place in the fitness pool at the Ringallee bathing centre: The Aquaback course, which combines aqua fitness with equipment training and is therefore only suitable for swimmers, starts at 2 pm. Non-swimmers can also take part in the aquabiking course, which starts at 3.00 pm. Both courses last 45 minutes and are free of charge. It is worth enrolling early, as the number of places is limited. All information is available by telephone on 0800 2302100.
