16 vocational students from the Max-Eyth-Schule in Alsfeld and their class teacher accepted an invitation to an information event organised by Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG). The students are training to become plant mechanics specialising in sanitary, heating and air conditioning technology. The students, who are in their second year of training, used the visit to SWG to gain an insight into Giessen's energy and water supply. The informative tour for the school class began with a tour of the facilities. Firstly, Hans Jürgen Dühring, foreman in the gas systems department, explained the function of the natural gas transfer station and the natural gas spherical tank. Then the water supply took centre stage. Together with Norbert Pausner, deputy head of the gas and water systems department, the school class visited a medium-zone tank and the waterworks in Queckborn. Following the tour, Michael Rösner, Head of Private Customer Sales, provided general information about the Giessen-based energy and water supplier. In the theoretical part, the presentation by the head of the gas and water systems department, graduate engineer Peter Keller, focussed on the development of natural gas through to distribution. Another interesting topic was plumbing contracts. Peter Keller then went on to provide background information on Giessen's water supply. The information event ended with a discussion round and the municipal utilities also put together an individual programme for interested vocational colleges in Giessen.
