There are currently around 580,000 associations in Germany, seven times as many as 50 years ago. Civic involvement therefore appears to be unbroken. This is also the case with the Rodheim-Bieber Sports and Cultural Association (SKG): the association celebrated its 125th anniversary this year. But despite its long tradition and almost 1,000 paying members, SKG Rodheim-Bieber is short of money at every turn. This is why it has not yet been able to repair the damage to the clubhouse caused by several attempted break-ins. Andreas Aust, 2nd Chairman of SKG Rodheim-Bieber and master carpenter at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), therefore didn't have to think twice when his employer was looking for good deeds for the region. "Our clubhouse has suffered a lot in recent years," says the father of two, who has been active on the SKG board for more than ten years. "A donation would come at just the right time and could make a difference. That's why I nominated the association for one of the 75 good deeds."
On 25 October, the SWG sponsor presented the first chairman of SKG Rodheim-Bieber, Roland Keller, with a symbolic cheque for the renovation of the clubhouse. "With the help of Stadtwerke, we are now in a position to carry out the urgently needed renovation work," explains Roland Keller. "After all, we want our members to have functional and safe rooms." The club is now counting on the active support of the footballers and the board: in addition to the roller shutters, they also need to replace the windows and install grilles. At the same time, the sink and toilet cubicles are to be replaced. Master carpenter Andreas Aust will personally take care of repairing the exterior door. "We're all looking forward to the first meeting in the renovated clubhouse," says the SWG sponsor.
