In the Giessen region, it's not just rowers who take to the Lahn or basketball players who aim for baskets. Some athletes are also motorised. These include the Ohmtal Motorsport Club (MSC) in Homberg, which is mainly dedicated to quad biking. This summer, the 100 or so members are once again organising a quad race in the official ADAC/DMV Quad Challenge series on the 400-metre-long speedway track.
To ensure that the quad riders can complete their laps safely, a race track needs stable barriers. It is precisely these that the motorsport enthusiasts need to repair before the first official race of the season on 1 and 2 June 2013. However, there are usually not enough funds for such additional repairs. Heidemarie Höfert-Brandt from the Customer Services department and her daughter Linda Höfert from the Marketing and Sales department at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) know this only too well. Both of them are involved in voluntary work at MSC Ohmtal. Several family members are also actively involved in quad biking. As the safety of the riders is therefore particularly close to their hearts, they suggested renewing the speedway oval as one of the 75 good deeds in SWG's anniversary year.
As a result, Lothar Seibert, 2nd Chairman of MSC Ohmtal, and Treasurer Udo Scholz were delighted that SWG donated the materials needed for the repairs. The two SWG sponsors Heidemarie Höfert-Brandt and Linda Höfert handed over the cheque on 3 May - SWG's 22nd good deed this year. "We are always grateful for financial help. The fact that we only have to pay for the work of the association members for our gangs helps us enormously," explained Lothar Seibert on the occasion of the cheque handover.
