Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and the city of Pohlheim put a charging station into operation on Thursday, 18 December. In future, electric vehicles, e-scooters and pedelecs can be recharged in the visitor car park in front of the town hall in the Watzenborn district of Pohlheim. "Due to their low pollutant and particulate emissions, electric vehicles are part of the urban mobility of the future," explained Karl-Heinz Schäfer, Mayor of Pohlheim, during the inauguration. Anyone using the charging station in Ludwigstraße automatically fills up with Giessen green electricity, 100 per cent nuclear-free and around 40 per cent regionally generated.
"We are delighted to be able to put the first SWG charging station in the region into operation in Pohlheim," adds Reinhard Paul, Technical Director of SWG. The special feature: SWG electricity customers refuel free of charge. They can apply for their fuel card at the reception desk of SWG's head office in Lahnstraße. Those who do not purchase electricity from SWG receive a fuel card for 25 euros, which is valid until the end of the respective calendar year. Refuelling at the charging station is then free of charge.
The charging station has two charging panels, each with two charging points: One with a Type 2 plug with 400 volts and a charging capacity of up to 22 kilowatts (kW); the second with a Schuko plug with 230 volts to allow vehicles without a communication interface to be connected. "This means that two vehicles can be charged at the same time," explains SWG company spokesperson Ina Weller. "Regardless of which of the two plug types they are suitable for."
Opening hours of the SWG head office at Lahnstraße 31: Mondays to Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
