More than 60 per cent of all heating systems in German households are outdated. This harms the climate and costs the operators a lot of money. For this reason, Stadtwerke Gießen is promoting the switch to efficient heating technology in 2017.
There is enormous savings potential lying dormant in German boiler rooms. This is because two out of three heating systems are no longer state of the art and consume significantly more fuel than necessary. Modern systems work up to 30 per cent more efficiently than their outdated counterparts.
"A refurbishment is almost always worthwhile - both for your own wallet and for the climate," emphasises Michael Rösner, Head of Private and Commercial Customer Sales at Stadtwerke Gießen. However, he also knows: "Although the investment pays off, many homeowners shy away from it. To make it easier for them to switch to an efficient heating system, we have launched a new subsidy programme."
Saving in three ways
Stadtwerke Gießen supports all those who do not use natural gas, say goodbye to their own heating system and switch to SWG's heating supply. In this case, property owners receive 750 euros immediately after commissioning the new district heating system.
Refurbishers without a district heating connection who switch from another fuel to climate-friendly natural gas and purchase natural gas from SWG for at least three years also receive a subsidy of 750 euros. The subsidy amount is divided up and credited over three years with the respective annual bill.
In addition, switchers can secure a one-off special bonus of 200 euros until 31 October 2017. Anyone who replaces their old heating system - whether it is powered by electricity, natural gas or heating oil - with a new, economical natural gas condensing boiler from Brötje, Buderus, Junkers, MHG, Vaillant or Viessmann during the "Replacement Weeks" will receive 200 euros immediately. In combination with the grant of 750 euros, all those who do so will save up to 950 euros.
