Stadtwerke Giessen and FC Giessen are cooperating until the end of the 2021 season, and both partners are very interested in continuing their collaboration in the coming 2021/2022 season.

FC Giessen is entering the final phase of what has been a turbulent and not entirely easy season in many respects. Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) is supporting the figurehead of the local football scene in the final spurt of the current season. And thus in the preparation for the coming season. The footballers from the Waldstadion can already plan for this in the Regionalliga Südwest. This is because they have already been certain of relegation since 15 May. There are good reasons why SWG only came into action as a sponsor so late. "It wasn't due to corona and the games without spectators," assures Ulli Boos, company spokesman for SWG. In fact, the club was also struggling with internal problems. In the meantime, it was even unclear whether and how things could continue. But that is now history.

Since lawyer Turgay Schmidt has been acting as the emergency board appointed by the Giessen district court, many things have moved in the right direction. "In view of all the difficulties the club has faced this season and last, it is all the more remarkable that the team was able to achieve its goal and stay in the league," explains Ulli Boos. "SWG's commitment helps us enormously," says a delighted Turgay Schmidt. "And we are doing everything we can to justify the trust placed in us." This applies to the last four match days of the 20/21 season on the pitch and beyond. The fact is that both parties are interested in working together in the upcoming season. "FC Giessen offers attractive sport that many people in the Central Hesse region follow with enthusiasm," added Ulli Boos. In fact, Turgay Schmidt and the team are looking forward to lots of fans watching the matches - not at the Waldstadion, of course, but via the FC Giessen live stream on YouTube (FC Giessen - football at home).

Already involved for some time

SWG's current sponsorship ties in with a previous cooperation with the club. This is because SWG already supported Teutonia Watzenborn-Steinberg when they were promoted to the Southwest Regional League. FC Giessen was formed from a merger between Teutonia Watzenborn-Steinberg and the traditional club VfB 1900 Giessen. The aim of the merger of the two traditional clubs was to join forces in order to compete in Germany's fourth-highest division.

Incidentally, SWG not only supports the first team, which practically trains under professional conditions. "When we realise that clubs attach importance to good youth work, we make a contribution there too," explains Ulli Boos. Because FC Giessen fulfils this criterion, the club also received a set of jerseys for a youth team.
