The Stadtwerke Gießen dragon boat team achieved another success in mid-September: The women and men achieved a very good eighth place in the long-distance regatta in Emden.
26 teams took part in a long-distance dragon boat regatta in Emden in mid-September - including the "Rohrleger" company team from Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). The men and women from Central Hessen had the longest journey and paddled against strong competitors in the sports class. The competition included two heats with distances of 3.2 and 4.1 kilometres. Strength, cohesion and stamina were required. "The intensive training and hard preparation paid off. We clearly exceeded our own expectations and are very proud of the result," emphasised captain Jens Dreiwurst, noting that coach Ulrike Kohlitz played a big part in the success. She has been coaching the "Rohrleger" team since this year.
Team spirit for success
Jens Dreiwurst also points to the team spirit that was crucial at the long-distance regatta in Emden. "We showed that: When you're in the same boat and fighting for a cause together, you can achieve a lot."
He particularly thanked Bernd Biedenkapp on behalf of the entire team for his commitment. The long-time member of the SWG team raced his last race for the "Rohrleger" in Emden. "Through the dragon boat races and training, colleagues get to know each other in a completely different way and strengthen their team spirit. All the better that we have the opportunity to do this and that the topic of company sport is very important at SWG," adds Jens Dreiwurst.
