On Wednesday, 19 March, there could be cancellations and delays on buses in the Giessen city area and in the municipality of Wettenberg throughout the day. This also affects the vehicles on the routes operated by the Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) subsidiary MIT.BUS.
The reason for this is that the trade union ver.di has called on bus drivers in Hesse to go on warning strike. Collective bargaining is currently underway in the public sector - both between the trade union ver.di and the federal government and local authorities as well as between the trade union ver.di and the state association of Hessian bus companies. So far, the negotiations have remained without result.
Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG, advises: "Passengers on all bus routes in Giessen and the surrounding area should definitely be prepared for cancellations and - if possible - look for an alternative. We assume that the strike will last the whole day." As the strike strategy is only known to a limited extent, changes at short notice cannot be ruled out.
Information on the strike and timetable
Stadtwerke Gießen advises all passengers to keep up to date with possible bus service cancellations on the radio, in the newspaper, on the Internet at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/verkehr or by calling the SWG service number 0800 23 02 100.
If you have any questions, the SWG local transport services staff at the customer centre on Marktplatz will also be happy to help. Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm.
