Start of training at Stadtwerke

Careers in energy, water supply, local transport and the operation of swimming pools - those who take on responsibility here are working on solutions for tomorrow. 15 new trainees start their careers at Stadtwerke Gießen.
For 15 young people, a new and exciting chapter in their lives began at the start of August. As trainees at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), they are learning skills that keep everyday life running reliably. As one of the largest employers in the region, SWG has been training skilled workers in seven different professions for years. "It is an important part of our corporate strategy to give young people the best possible start to their careers," emphasises Vanessa Lischke, who is responsible for training at SWG. "In this way, we not only fulfil our social responsibility, but also provide the next generation of skilled workers that are so important."
Start with the induction week
To kick things off, all newcomers complete the "Trainee Start Weeks" at SWG. "During this time, the career starters get to know each other and gain an insight into the basic rules of behaviour as well as rights and obligations during their training," explains Vanessa Lischke.
Right at the beginning, a scavenger hunt through the company is on the programme - this lightens the mood and serves as an initial orientation. During the induction weeks, the young people undergo data protection and IT training, gain initial experience in the training workshop as part of project work and receive both telephone and occupational safety training.
Commercial trainees from the first year of training traditionally help to organise the start week. "Our experienced trainees are happy to take on the responsibility. They know the processes and contribute their ideas," says Vanessa Lischke.
Careers with a future
Three of the apprentices have opted to become automotive mechatronics technicians, while five are training to become electronics technicians for industrial engineering. Three others are learning the trade of plant mechanic, while one would like to work as a pool attendant in the future. Two industrial clerks and one prospective IT specialist for system integration complete the team.
