Stadtwerke Gießen has been supporting TSG Leihgestern in handball since 2011. Just in time for the start of the 3rd division South-West season, the two partners are extending and expanding their successful collaboration.
With 130 years of experience, TSG Leihgestern is one of the traditional clubs in the region. Alongside other sports, women's handball plays a major role here. No fewer than three teams currently take part in active match operations. And with success: the first team has secured a place in the third division South-West for the coming season.
Such a sporting promotion is of course a great thing. But a higher division usually also means a lot more effort. This presents a club like TSG Leihgestern with a major challenge. Not only in sporting and organisational terms, but also financially. "Without the help of our sponsors, we wouldn't be able to play at this level," explains Dr Reinhard Kreiling, Deputy Head of Department at TSG Leihgestern, adding: "That's why we're delighted that Stadtwerke Gießen will be even more involved in the future than it has been to date." In fact, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and TSG Leihgestern have extended the partnership they have had since 2011 for a further three years. And also expanded the scope. "The club's achievements, especially in women's handball and the associated youth work, deserve recognition. This is exactly what we want to express with our commitment," explains SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos at the signing of the contract.
Excited about what's to come
"We are extremely grateful for the consistent and professional partnership with SWG," summarises coach Jonna Jensen. She, her 17 players and the four-strong coaching team have been preparing meticulously for the coming season for weeks and are excited about what awaits them. Just like SWG: "We will be sponsoring one of the home games. It's sure to be a great evening with an attractive handball match," announces Ulli Boos.
It is very likely that the matches in front of the home crowd will play an important role in achieving the goal of staying in the league this season. Experience has shown that it is easier to score the necessary points at home than away. The first home game in the third division is likely to be a real nail-biter: TSG Leihgestern will host HSG Gedern/Nidda in a local derby on 9 September. Kick-off is at 19:30 in the Stadthalle Linden. Big commitment for the little ones
Promotion to the third division is no coincidence, but the result of consistent hard work. In Leihgestern, this starts with the youngest players. With the minis, the club offers girls from the age of five an introduction to the action-packed sport. With an E and D youth team, the club has been providing youth teams again for a long time, especially in the female section. "Successfully building up a youth section is not easy. TSG puts in a lot of work and time to give talented youngsters the chance to play girls' handball. This encourages us in our decision to support TSG Leihgestern," continues Ulli Boos. "We also want to play our part in getting even more girls and young women in the region interested in handball in the future."
