The newspaper for municipal business and Focus Money award Stadtwerke Giessen the seal of approval "Top career opportunities in the region".

Following the corona-related slump on the labour market, the situation is easing noticeably. For companies, this means Skilled labour is becoming more difficult to recruit or retain. This also applies to Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). It is therefore all the more pleasing for them that they recently received the "Top Career Opportunities in the Region" award.
The award is organised by the Zeitung für kommunale Wirtschaft, the trade journal of the Association of Municipal Enterprises, and Focus Money. The two partners have brought the Institute for Management and Economic Research on board for the project. Its experts contribute the necessary expertise for the broad-based data analysis - known as social listening - on which the seal is based. This analysis comprises three steps. Firstly, all texts available on the Internet that are relevant for personnel acquisition are recorded. A specially programmed tool scours millions of sources - from news sites, forums and social media channels to press releases. Following this crawling, artificial intelligence is used. It analyses all the collected data with regard to the employer profile and asks the following questions: Which company is it about? Which topic is the focus? And what is the tone of the text? In the final step, the calculator evaluates the mentions and assigns them to one of three categories - positive, neutral or negative.

The overall result, summarised in a numerical value, is made up of the six individual results in the areas of career, career entry, corporate culture, employer, salary and fairness, which are weighted equally. Due to this holistic view of a company, it is not enough to excel in just one sector. For a good overall result, a company must perform well everywhere. "We have obviously succeeded in doing this," says Jens Schmidt, Commercial Director of SWG. In fact, Stadtwerke Gießen was ranked 10th out of 120 German municipal utilities, leaving many a much larger competitor behind.
However, this great success does not encourage anyone at SWG to rest on their laurels. On the contrary: "The seal is an incentive to continue with the same vigour and to keep improving," adds Matthias Funk, Technical Director of SWG. The fact is that, like all other energy suppliers, Stadtwerke Gießen is in the midst of a huge upheaval. But unlike many of its competitors, SWG is taking a proactive approach to the energy transition and digitalisation and developing innovative solutions. And because this is no longer just about electricity, natural gas and heat, SWG can offer attractive jobs not only to engineers, but also to experienced business people and IT specialists.
