The general meeting of the state association of the energy and water industry has re-elected Jens Schmidt to the board. The Commercial Director of Stadtwerke Gießen has been a member of the board for six years.

On 19 and 20 May 2022, the representatives of the member companies of the Landesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft (LDEW) met for their upcoming meeting. An important item on the agenda: the election of the Executive Board. Jens Schmidt, Commercial Director of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), once again received the confidence of the delegates and was elected to the LDEW Executive Board for the fourth time. He has now held this office for six years.

Representing the regional sector

The LDEW represents the interests of around 270 companies from the energy and water industry in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate vis-à-vis politicians, authorities and the public. The association unites the electricity and district heating, gas, water and wastewater sectors and acts as a link between the utility industry, politics and society.

"In these challenging times for the energy and water industry, I am delighted to be able to play an active role on the LDEW Executive Board in overcoming the current crises and shaping the framework conditions for a sustainable energy and water supply in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate," explained Jens Schmidt after his election. In view of the geopolitical situation and the situation on the energy markets, the critical infrastructure of the companies represented by the LDEW is rightly becoming increasingly important. "We have shown that you can always rely on the energy and water industry in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate - during the coronavirus pandemic, during unlawful mass cancellations by low-cost energy providers and currently during the war in Ukraine."

Jens Schmidt sees a need for action when it comes to the legal framework. After all, in order to continue to fulfil its role as well as it has in recent decades, the industry needs one thing above all - planning security. "That's why we want political support to increase the resilience of the energy and water infrastructure and accelerate the expansion of renewable energies, and we are calling for the preservation of our water resources for the public water supply," summarises Jens Schmidt.
