For the 23rd time this year, tens of thousands of oldies fans and classic car enthusiasts will meet in Wettenberg at the Golden Oldies Festival. From 27 to 29 July, 52 bands will bring the lifestyle of the 50s, 60s and 70s back to life in the Krofdorf-Gleiberg district.
As in previous years, the organisers recommend travelling by public transport. SWG has once again organised a special bus service to take visitors from Giessen and the surrounding area to Wettenberg. "Anyone who has ever travelled to the Golden Oldies Festival by car will know that there are long queues outside the car parks - as there are at every major event. Visitors can get into the town much more easily by bus," explains Mathias Carl, Managing Director of SWG's local transport subsidiary MIT.BUS GmbH.
Two special buses per hour
As the station forecourt is currently being rebuilt, this year the additional buses will depart every 30 minutes from the replacement stop Bahnhof/Mathematikum in the direction of Krofdorf-Gleiberg. On Friday, 27 July from 18:00 to 23:30, on Saturday, 28 July from 10:00 to 00:00 and on Sunday, 29 July from 09:00 to 20:00. The last buses in the direction of Gießen will depart from the Wiesenstraße stop in Krofdorf-Gleiberg at 23:56 on Friday, at 00:26 on Saturday and at 20:26 on Sunday.
In Giessen, the coaches of the SWG subsidiary MIT.BUS travel to the following stops: Bahnhof/Mathematikum in Liebigstraße, Liebigstraße, Johanneskirche, Stadttheater, Marktplatz, Oswaldsgarten, Schützenstraße, Gleiberger Weg, Leimenkauter Weg and Hochhäuser.
Outside of Giessen, the buses also stop at the bus stops Launsbach-Gewerbepark Ost, Gewerbepark West, Seemühle, Klingelgarten, Wiesenstraße and Kronzenborner Weg in Krofdorf-Gleiberg. Day tickets for bus transport to the festival cost two euros.
With lines 802 and 800 to Wettenberg
For the regular routes to Krofdorf-Gleiberg, 802 and 800, the usual timetable applies on the weekend from 27 to 29 July, but in Krofdorf-Gleiberg they will run on a diversion route via Wiesenstraße and Kattenbachstraße. They will only stop at the Wiesenstraße, Kronzenborner Weg and Wißmarer Straße stops.
In contrast to the special buses, the special tickets for the Golden Oldies Festival are not valid on routes 800 and 802.
Passengers can also obtain the timetable for the Golden Oldies Festival from the Stadtwerke Gießen customer centre at Marktplatz 7 or on the Internet at www.stadtwerke-giessen.de under "Aktuelle Verkehrshinweise".
