The day care centre "Kinderhaus" in Langgöns has installed a new tube slide. Stadtwerke Giessen helped the centre to finance the play equipment.
For three years, the girls and boys at the "Kinderhaus" daycare centre in Langgöns literally looked down the tubes. They had not been allowed to use the old tube slide in the centre's grounds for a long time. "They were only allowed to look at it," says Andrea Umlauff, head of the daycare centre since 2003. The reason: cracks had already formed in the plastic and the screw connection could have come loose at any time. As a result, the ageing play equipment no longer met the TÜV requirements. "We look after a total of 105 children between the ages of one and six. Having to keep telling the little ones 'No, you can't slide' was not a permanent solution," explains the daycare centre manager.
New play equipment was needed. However, due to limited financial resources, this wish could not be fulfilled so easily. The daycare centre therefore focused its budget planning on the costly purchase and asked for support. Thomas Nuhn, who has worked as a bus driver in the local transport department at Stadtwerke Giessen for 23 years, heard about the plans. His daughter has been attending the daycare centre for a year. "My first thought was: 'We should definitely get involved. That's why I suggested the daycare centre for the 75 good deeds during our anniversary year," explains the SWG employee.
On Wednesday 21 August, he handed over a donation cheque for 500 euros to the daycare centre's director Andrea Umlauff and deputy director Susanne Lenzen. "We are delighted that everything worked out so quickly and that we can inaugurate the slide this summer," said Andrea Umlauff. The play equipment had already been delivered some time before the cheque was handed over and Thomas Nuhn helped to pour the foundations and install the tube. The run-out zone is to be extended shortly. Susanne Lenzen thanked everyone for their hard work and was certain: "As soon as the children are allowed on the slide, the new play equipment will definitely be the main attraction when we go outside to play."
