Increasing energy efficiency has been on the agenda at Schunk Bahn- und Industrietechnik GmbH in Wettenberg for some time now. This is because heating costs are becoming an ever-increasing cost factor, especially for commercial enterprises. This makes it all the more important not to leave any potential savings unutilised. Stefan Schaaf (Managing Director of Schunk Bahn- und Industrietechnik GmbH) and Thomas Koch (Purchasing Manager at Schunk Bahn- und Industrietechnik GmbH), who are responsible for modernisation at the company, are also focusing on precisely this. With the optimisation, Schunk Bahn- und Industrietechnik GmbH aims to reduce the primary energy used. The decision-makers relied on the expertise of Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) to make the savings.
With today's signing of the contract, the municipal utilities will not only take over the generation plants, but will also monitor them and be responsible for the continuous operation of the plant and the heat supply. The contract was signed by Stefan Schaaf, Thomas Koch, Reinhard Paul (SWG Technical Director) and Thomas Wagner (SWG Sales Manager for Industrial and Commercial Customers), thus laying the foundations for future cooperation. Thomas Brunner (Head of Department of the municipality of Wettenberg) from the municipality of Wettenberg was present at the signing ceremony.
In addition to increasing energy efficiency at Schunk Bahn- und Industrietechnik GmbH, SWG is also developing a local heating network for the neighbouring "Baumäcker" development area. More than 50 building plots are to be created in the new development area - these are to be supplied with district heating. The required heat will be provided by the company's heat generation plant. In order to connect the new development area to the heat supply, Stadtwerke will lay around 450 metres of district heating pipe.
Valuable savings through modernisation
The signing of the contract marks the start of the construction and modernisation work. Stadtwerke will take over the existing plant and invest in modernisation, the addition of a combined heat and power plant and the optimisation of the heat supply at Schunk Bahn- und Industrietechnik GmbH. SWG plans to put the optimised plant into operation in September.
