The outdoor pool season in Giessen starts this coming weekend. What's more, all the equipment in the large water playground is now available without restriction and the sports pool is heated by the new MHKW.
The outdoor pool season at the Ringallee bathing centre will also start at the same time as the State Garden Show on Saturday 26 April. From 9 a.m., bathers can once again swim in the open air and, weather permitting, soak up the sun. "This year we are opening a few days earlier than usual. The temperatures in the water allow it and we want to make it possible for visitors to the State Garden Show to visit the water playground. After a tour of the garden show grounds, it is also possible to cool off afterwards," explains Reinhard Paul, Technical Director of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). Holders of a valid LAGA ticket can enter the outdoor pool via a turnstile located on the LAGA site, but not via the outdoor pool ticket office. "However, we hope that many season tickets will be sold again this year. The diversions via LAGA is not only inconvenient, but also time-limited. LAGA only opens its doors from 10 a.m. every day," says Reinhard Paul.
Climate-friendly heating for sports pool
Since summer 2013, children and young people as well as adults have been enjoying a new attraction at the Ringallee outdoor pool - the large water playground, which features numerous attractions such as water pumps, water courses and a water forest. Already partially in operation during the previous season, all play segments are now available for all age groups without restriction. Fun and an eventful visit to the outdoor pool are guaranteed.
"In recent months, we have also invested in another new feature to make swimming in the sports pool as pleasant as possible, even at lower outside temperatures," explains Reinhard Paul. SWG recently started heating the water in the large pool - using the residual heat in the exhaust gas from the combined heat and power plant (CHP) on the outdoor pool grounds. Reinhard Paul explains: "Normally, this heat would escape into the environment. With its low temperature level of 60 degrees, it cannot be utilised for district heating. However, it can be used to heat the pool water in a further step. We are thus increasing the energy yield of the already highly efficient CHP plant and increasing comfort for the outdoor pool visitors."
Cycling and public transport recommended
Unfortunately, the parking situation around the Ringallee bathing centre has not improved compared to the 2013 season. Due to the State Garden Show, it is even likely to get worse. Stadtwerke Gießen therefore advises bathers to switch to public transport or cycling. The Landgericht stop is only around 200 metres away from the entrance to the outdoor pool.
The opening times have also remained the same: daily from 9 am to 8 pm. If you want to swim your laps away from the hustle and bustle, you can enter the outdoor pool from 7 a.m. with the early swimmer ticket. After two years of price stability, SWG has had to raise the prices for all tickets slightly. A single ticket now costs €2.80 instead of €2.60. The 10-ticket is available for 22.40 euros, the adult season ticket for 78.40 euros. The reduced annual ticket price for children and those entitled to a discount is 52.30 euros. Family tickets for the entire season are available for 156.80 euros.
Start in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden
As in previous years, the SWG outdoor pools in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden will open later than the Ringallee outdoor pool - probably at the end of May or beginning of June.
The Ringallee indoor pool will revert to its summer opening times from Sunday 27 April. Guests can visit the indoor pool from 8 am to 1 pm and the sauna from 9 am to 1 pm.
All information on opening times and prices is available Monday to Friday between 7 am and 7 pm via the SWG service hotline on 0800 23 02 100 or on the SWG website at "Bäder".
