The expertise of SWG's energy services is also in demand far beyond the region's borders. At Wohnstift Betriebsgesellschaft SWB in the Black Forest, the municipal utility company's experts are modernising the heating systems of two retirement and nursing homes.

Stadtwerke Gießen has modernised and commissioned numerous heating systems in recent months - mostly in Gießen and the surrounding area. This year, SWG will begin optimising the heat supply to two retirement homes belonging to Wohnstift Betriebsgesellschaft mbH, based in Bühl in the Black Forest. Managing Director Hubertus Seidler explains why he is relying on the expertise of the energy service provider from Central Hesse: "I know Stadtwerke from my previous position as Managing Director of Alten- und Pflegeheim Schacht GmbH in Bad Nauheim. SWG proved to be a reliable partner in two projects similar to the upcoming one." The two Bad Nauheim retirement homes "Im Park" and "Am Kaiserberg" will save around 30 per cent heating energy after the conversion of the facilities. "We have also set ourselves this target for the two retirement and nursing homes in the Black Forest," says Oliver Kisigna?z from Stadtwerke Gießen. Heating systems with modern technology

In the Veronikaheim in Bühl and the Murgtal-Wohnstift in Gernsbach, modern gas condensing boilers will therefore soon be used instead of the old boilers. "Together with optimised hot water preparation and better heat distribution, this will increase efficiency enormously," explains Oliver Kisigna?z. "The two combined heat and power units (CHP) will also make a significant contribution to savings. They are the centrepiece of the systems in both buildings and cover the base load for the heat supply." Only when their heat output is insufficient - for example during the morning hours in the winter months - will the condensing boilers provide support. The advantage of the CHP units: whenever they produce heat, they also generate electricity at the same time according to the principle of combined heat and power (CHP). The residents and the operator of the two facilities in Bühl and Gernsbach will be able to use this themselves in future. "This will reduce our heating costs and our expenditure on electricity," says Hubertus Seidler. Electricity consumption from the public grid will be reduced by at least 50 per cent. In addition, Wohnstift Betriebsgesellschaft mbH will not have to worry about operating the new systems, but will only pay for the energy consumed. Maintenance, servicing, repairs and the associated costs are borne by Stadtwerke Gießen. Hubertus Seidler is convinced by this offer: "For us, the all-round carefree package is an optimal solution and ecologically valuable." The Managing Director of Wohnstift Betriebsgesellschaft mbH is therefore also planning to have the heating systems in the two nursing homes in Bad Herrenalb and Haslach modernised by SWG. After all, the investment pays off for the property owner, operator and ultimately for the residents.
