Power station on the roof
In its online lecture series "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday", Stadtwerke Gießen will be providing information on the topic of private photovoltaic systems on 24 June at 5.30 pm.
Photovoltaics (PV) is all the rage. In 2024, PV systems across Germany fed around 60 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity into the grid - i.e. 60 billion kilowatt hours. This corresponds to around one seventh of total electricity generation in this country. In addition, there is another 12 TWh of solar power that operators of such solar power plants have used themselves.
Anyone who would like to generate their own electricity with the power of the sun in the future should listen to the lecture "Photovoltaics - Energy from the Sun" from the "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" series organised by Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). In it, an energy consultant from SWG explains what is worth paying attention to when it comes to purchasing your own PV system. In doing so, he will of course focus on the economic aspects of such a system and explain the new features of the Solar Peak Act, which came into force at the end of February, and the objectives that the legislator is pursuing with it.
Self-consumption is becoming increasingly important
This much in advance: In many cases, a PV system pays off - even despite the new legal situation. Strictly speaking, the Solar Peak Act merely reinforces a principle that already applied before it came into force: the economic viability of a photovoltaic system essentially depends on self-consumption. "The higher this is, the quicker the system will reach the plus," calculates SWG energy consultant Moritz Müller. For this very reason, it often makes sense not to stop at the solar modules and the necessary inverter, but to invest a little more and also purchase an electricity storage unit. This is because the option of storing the electricity from the roof during the day and only using it in the evening decouples generation from consumption to a certain extent and thus significantly increases the proportion of self-used electricity.
SWG's energy expert explains all these technical and economic issues with illustrative practical examples. In his presentation, he also discusses a very convenient way to own a PV system: the e-revolution. The SWG product family offers the right module for all requirements and applications - from the e-roof, the PV system itself, to the e-storage system and the e-charging station.
Energy knowledge online
The "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" lecture series is an online programme. Anyone interested in listening to the lecture "Photovoltaics - energy from the sun" on 24 June at 5.30 pm simply register by 22 June at energieberatung@stadtwerke-giessen.de. SWG will send out a participation link in good time. Of course, this digital format also offers enough space for questions, which the expert will answer after his presentation.
