Off to the Ringallee outdoor pool: the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day with sporting activities and hands-on stations from many Giessen clubs will take place here again next Sunday.

On Sunday, 18 June, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) invites you to the fifth "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day at the Ringallee outdoor pool. Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., the day of action offers plenty of sport and fun for all guests, young and old. Numerous clubs are taking part and giving visitors the opportunity to try out familiar and unusual sports. Admission is free.

The City Day is part of the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" campaign, which SWG launched back in 2017. "The aim of our initiative is to get children and young people interested in more sport and exercise," explains SWG company spokesperson Ulli Boos. As part of "Spiel' Dein Spiel", SWG supports clubs, schools and other institutions that are involved in children's and youth sport with donations in kind. In addition, the company repeatedly offers organisations from Giessen and the surrounding area the opportunity to present themselves and their activities to a wider audience. For example at the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day.

From acrobatics to water rescue

The programme is the usual colourful mix. To kick things off, it's worth visiting the SWG meeting point, where SWG will provide information about the day's individual attractions. And with a bit of luck, you can win great prizes with a lively spin on the wheel of fortune. Michael Rogalla, better known as Clown Ichmael, will be back with his circus barn. There, children and young people can test their skills - from balancing to juggling. The Aqua Zumba programme at the Giessen swimming pools is really sporty. The aim here is to move to hot rhythms in the water. The DLRG will also be there: trained lifeguards will explain how to recognise drowning people and how to save them. TSG Blau-Gold Gießen will provide insights into various disciplines: The dedicated dance sports club shows a large part of its wide range of activities from dance to fitness and martial arts to acrobatics, such as pole dance or aerial hoop.

The ball is round

At TSV 1889 Klein-Linden e.V., everything revolves around the ball: girls impress with their football skills and prove that Germany's most popular sport is no longer a man's game. The Giessen Golden Dragons from MTV 1846 Giessen will also be there again. The club will be presenting both football and flag football. The latter is a variant of American football, but without the usual physical contact. The JobStairs Giessen 46ers set up a basketball hoop and invite guests to throw a few balls with them. Those interested can also put their marksmanship to the test at SC Roland Kleinlinden e.V.: either with archery or with a light rifle.

Skill required

At the Actic Fitness stand, strength and stamina as well as a good dose of skill are required: Kubb, a throwing game also known as Viking chess. KSV Wieseck is also all about wood: the club members show what they can do in sports bowling. Needless to say, the SWG mascot Fabius will also be up to mischief on the grounds, ensuring that not only the little ones are in a good mood. Last but not least, the pool shop will be presenting its colourful range of swimming paraphernalia.
