On Sunday, 16 June, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) invites you to "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day at the Ringallee outdoor pool. The day of action starts at 11 am and offers sport and fun for young and old until 4 pm. Numerous clubs will showcase some unusual and some familiar sports and give visitors the opportunity to try them out. Admission is free.
The City Day is an integral part of the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" ("Play your game") campaign, which SWG launched almost two years ago. The idea behind it: To get children and young people interested in sport and exercise. "With 'Spiel' Dein Spiel', we support clubs and institutions that offer appropriate programmes for children and young people," explains Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG. This is done on the one hand with donations of money and goods, but also through direct contact. SWG creates a platform for clubs from Giessen and the surrounding area to present their sports. One such platform is the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day.
From unusual to well-known
Many clubs have already confirmed their participation in the City Day - such as MTV 1846 Gießen. At their stand, interested parties can get a taste of three lesser-known sports: roundnet, floorball and wrestling. In Roundnet, two players from each team try to play off each other on a 360-degree playing field over a round, trampoline-like net on the floor - similar to volleyball. Floorball is a type of hockey played with a light air ball. TSV 1911 Albach also attracts visitors with an exotic sport: the action-packed game of jugger is taken from a feature film. The aim is to get a ball into the opponent's field of play, which the opponent naturally wants to prevent. The Hellas 1920 water sports club introduces the art of stand-up paddling. And at DC Cartoon, it's all about accuracy. The club introduces the sport of darts. The Giessen Swimming Club will be introducing children and young people to table tennis, KSV Wieseck will be at the start with a mobile bowling alley and the Giessen Sports Club will be setting up its airtrack. The special gymnastics track facilitates acrobatic elements thanks to its springy air filling. TSV Blau-Gold is all about dancing, breakdancing and taekwondo. TSV Klein-Linden presents athletics and - like FC Gießen - football.
Back in the water, the DLRG Gießen district organisation will be demonstrating swimming and water rescue. Of course, the Giessen swimming pools will also be making an appearance. They are represented at the "Spiel' Dein Spiel - City Day" with Aqua-Zumba. Children can become little stars in the circus ring at Clown Ichmael's hands-on circus. The SWG get-together with a wheel of fortune and raffle ticket sales in aid of the Tour of Hope as well as a glitter tattoo station round off the action-packed family day.
