Sun and clouds are still alternating over Giessen's skies and the temperatures are also changeable. However, the weather service forecasts promise rising temperatures. That's why Sunday, 15 May 2005, at 9:00 a.m. marks the start of the outdoor swimming season at the Ringallee outdoor pool: the Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) outdoor pool will open its doors for the first time in 2005. The swimming pool will be open daily until 8 p.m. until September. The water is heated and let in. The SWG employees put the finishing touches to the sunbathing lawns days ago. This means that the preparations are complete and summer can come. The municipal utilities used the winter break to give some of the outdoor pool facilities a new shine. In the paddling pool, the children can look forward to a new water mushroom. The play equipment, which looks like a fire engine, has been fitted with fall protection panels. The men's toilet has been partially renovated. The area between the diving and non-swimmers' pool has been newly paved. The two volleyball courts have new nets. If you have forgotten your volleyball ball at home, you can borrow balls from SWG. Something is also happening in the kiosk area. The kiosk is being remodelled so that pizza can also be offered for sale in the future. In the final spurt of preparations, the SWG employees cleaned the pools and spruced up the green areas. Admission prices have remained stable, reported Uwe Volbrecht, deputy head of SWG's swimming pool department. The single ticket costs a standardised two euros. The price for a five-person ticket is eight euros. Adults pay 56 euros for a season ticket, children and other authorised persons 28 euros. The family ticket costs 112 euros. This year, the Stadtwerke will once again be offering its bathing guests early swimming. Those who wish to do so and purchase an early swimmer ticket with their season ticket can swim their laps in the outdoor pool from 7.00 am. Summer holidaysDuring the summer holidays, Stadtwerke will once again be organising camps for children aged 9 to 14 at the Ringallee bathing centre. The programme promises plenty of variety. In addition to activities such as beach volleyball and football, SWG is offering an excursion and a night hike. There are four dates to choose from, the price is 80 euros including accommodation in a tent and three meals a day. Anyone interested can call 0641 708-1411 for more information or to register. It will be decided in the next few days when the Stadtwerke will open the outdoor pools in Lützellinden and Kleinlinden. If you still have questions, you can call the SWG service hotline on 0180 22 11 100.
