The outdoor pool season begins in Kleinlinden and Lützellinden
On 1 June, the two district outdoor pools open their gates to bathers.
On Monday, 1 June 2026, the season begins at the Kleinlinden and Lützellinden outdoor pools. As usual, the Giessen swimming pools always open their two district pools one month after the Ringallee outdoor pool. The reason is obvious: there are no heated pools in either Kleinlinden or Lützellinden. As a result, experience has shown that the water temperature at the beginning of May is an uninviting 18 degrees. "Thanks to the many hours of sunshine over the past few days, we were able to reach the 20-degree mark," says a delighted Uwe Volbrecht, Head of Giessen Pools at Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG).
Green electricity from the roof
Once again this year, the Giessen swimming pools have undergone some modernisation work: The technical buildings in both pools were given new roofs. In Lützellinden, SWG has already had a photovoltaic system installed on them. A similar system will soon be installed in Kleinlinden. The Giessen pools use the self-generated electricity from the roof to power the circulation pumps of the pool water treatment systems.
The company has also succeeded in finding new tenants for the two kiosks in the pools. When the weather is nice, they offer the usual open-air pool snacks - from ice cream and cool drinks to tasty portions of French fries. Last but not least, the Kleinlinden outdoor pool now has a Nextbike station.
Same opening hours, stable prices
As last year, both pools open their doors daily at 1 pm. Admission ends at 6.30 pm - as usual, half an hour before the pool closes at 7 pm. Admission prices remain stable. A single ticket costs 3.30 euros, a five-ticket costs 14.90 euros. The reduced five-ticket costs just 9.90 euros. The season ticket costs 66 euros, the discounted version 44 euros and families pay 132 euros. Admission is free for children up to the age of 5 as well as for students of Justus Liebig University, the Technical University of Central Hesse and the Theological University. The latter simply need to register in advance and have their ticket activated at a manned ticket office in the Ringallee outdoor pool. Students can then enter the pools themselves by holding their QR code in front of one of the scanners located at all cash desks and entrance turnstiles.
