A major attraction for visitors inaugurated and once again more bathers welcomed than last year: the successful outdoor pool season at the Ringallee bathing centre ends at the weekend.

Lots of sunshine and high temperatures over several weeks this summer attracted people from Giessen and the surrounding area to the outdoor pools. "Our visitor numbers clearly show that many people were looking for a place where they could enjoy the beautiful weather and cool off from the heat," says Reinhard Paul, Technical Director of Stadtwerke Gießen. The Kleinlinden and Lützellinden outdoor pools alone attracted around 16,200 and 17,400 bathers respectively - around 5,000 more than in 2012. "We even exceeded the 9,000 mark at the Ringallee bathing centre this season," explains Reinhard Paul and is delighted: "Even on the hot days with record visitor numbers, everything ran smoothly. A big thank you to all the staff and of course to the bathers, who were not disturbed by the construction site for the new water playground."
On the contrary: young and older visitors alike kept peering curiously and excitedly over the construction fence at the 1300 square metre site adjacent to the indoor swimming pool.

New attraction goes down well
At the beginning of August, SWG inaugurated the toddler area and the water forest of the new play landscape. The third area followed recently - a channel system in which the children themselves determine where and how fast the water that they previously had to pump up flows via flaps and weirs. The water playground immediately became one of the main attractions for bathers. "We always want to offer visitors young and old something new and exciting - and we have succeeded in doing this with the adventure play area, which requires a lot of action when pumping," says Reinhard Paul confidently.
The indoor season starts again on Sunday, 15 September 2013. The indoor pool and sauna will then open their doors as usual at 8 am and 9 am respectively. This means that the usual longer opening hours for the indoor season will apply again: The indoor pool and sauna close at 6 pm on Sundays.
