Giessen municipal utilities lend out electricity meters

How much electricity does which appliance use? Customers can borrow electricity meters from the infoCentre of Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) to find out the power guzzlers in their household. With a meter borrowed from SWG, the power consumption of all household appliances can be conveniently checked.

Simply collect the device from the infoCentre on the market square and connect it between the appliance and the socket. The electricity meter then determines the consumption over a certain period of time. All the customer has to do is read the consumption data and enter it in the corresponding consumption log. SWG's energy consultants at the infoCentre then help with the subsequent evaluation and extrapolation of the measured values to current electricity costs. Customers benefit from personalised energy advice based on the consumption data. The energy advice service is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Information can be obtained by telephone during opening hours on 0641 708-1177.

Stadtwerke has been offering this service for over 15 years - this year alone, 216 customers have borrowed electricity meters to check their household appliances.

Reducing electricity consumption is important

Saving electricity continues to be an effective contribution to climate protection and cost savings. Even small changes in behaviour and sensible investments in modern and efficient technology can achieve considerable savings. Nowadays, energy-efficient household appliances are an absolute must in every household.

Household appliances in everyday life

Everyone has long since become accustomed to the usual household appliances - the faithful servants in the home. Household appliances are taken for granted in our society and generally provide service for between 10 and 15 years. The technical development of household appliances has an impact on electricity consumption. For this reason, the power consumption of the appliance should be scrutinised every time a new appliance is purchased. After all, electricity consumption accounts for 10 to 15 per cent of a household's overall energy balance. Efficient household appliances save money in the long run.
