From 1 January 2025, new fares will apply throughout the entire Rhine-Main Transport Association.
On 16 June 2024, the Supervisory Board of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund decided to increase fares by an average of 4 percent from 1 January 2025. In concrete terms, this means In city fare level 1 for the tariff area of the city of Giessen and the municipality of Heuchelheim, a single journey for adults will cost €2.90 instead of €2.75 in future. The price of a single journey for children will rise from €1.60 to €1.70. With the RMV-SparPass for €11.30/month, the single journey ticket is available for €2.15. The price of the monthly ticket for Giessen will increase by €2.10 to €57.00. The cost of annual passes in city price level 1 will follow this change.
In future, school pupils and trainees will pay €45.00 per month for their eTicket, which is €1.60 more than in 2024. The Hesse Schoolchildren's Ticket and the Hesse Senior Citizens' Ticket will become more expensive for the first time since their introduction. They will cost €379.00 for a one-off direct debit. With twelve monthly direct debits of €32.20 each, they will cost €386.40.
The Giessen way
Independently of RMV, the federal and state governments have raised the price of the Deutschlandticket - from €49.00 to €58.00 per month. Of course, this also affects the Deutschlandticket with Hessenpass mobil, for which you will have to pay €39.00 in future, €8.00 more than before. This offer is only available as a subscription with twelve direct debits. A new order or extension of the Deutschlandticket with Hessenpass mobil is only possible with a current Hessenpass mobil certificate.
The city of Giessen attaches great importance to ensuring mobility for all groups of people in the city. People who live in Giessen and receive social benefits can therefore continue to travel on public transport at a reduced rate. On presentation of the Hessenpass mobil and the Giessen Pass, eligible persons will receive a Deutschlandticket for €24.00 per month. "This means that we have only passed on half of the price increase of the Hessenpass mobil to those affected," explains Councillor Francesco Arman. The prices for weekly and monthly tickets at the Giessen Pass rate remain stable. The monthly pass costs €18.00 and the weekly pass €6.00.
