More seating in the garden of the Heinz-Ulm-Haus social centre run by the Workers' Welfare Association in Langgöns: Stadtwerke Giessen is donating a new park bench to celebrate good deed number 18 in its anniversary year.

Supporting the socially disadvantaged and caring for the sick: These guidelines determine the commitment of the Workers' Welfare Association (AWO) - as in the Heinz-Ulm-Haus social centre in Langgöns. "In addition to day care and an outpatient service, we offer 76 elderly people in need of help a home and the appropriate care," explains Ursula Mlyniec, Chairwoman of the local AWO association in Langgöns.
The social centre also includes a large outdoor area with a so-called dementia garden. The paths are laid out in the shape of a figure of eight, as people with dementia often find it difficult to find their way around. Volunteers regularly help to maintain the garden. Martina German, a clerk in the works council office at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), explains: "When the weather is good, the older people like to spend time in the outdoor area to exercise, chat or simply enjoy the sun. Often all the seats are taken." This is why the municipal utilities employee came up with the idea of proposing the purchase of another park bench for SWG's 75 good deeds. On Wednesday 17 April, she handed over a symbolic donation cheque for the purchase of the bench to Ursula Mlyniec and Klaus Kießling, board member of the local AWO association in Langgöns. The two of them and Beate Bertsch-Tobisch, director of the Heinz-Ulm-Haus, thanked SWG for its commitment - also on behalf of the residents of the AWO social centre in Langgöns.
